Somalia’s Southwest State President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen has on Tuesday received at his office in the capital Baidoa, a delegation comprising of Ministers of Livestock Hassan Mohamed Eley and his Agriculture counterpart Ahmed Madobe, who arrived in the regional State for official working visit.
The discussion centred on the current security and drought situation in the region with President Laftagareen briefing the ministers on the humanitarian situation on the ground.
The Ministers who both hail from the regional State told Laftagareen the Federal government will soon embark on
initiation and implementation of various projects tailored on enhancing the livelihood of the people in the State.
The State leader expressed gratitude to the Ministers for their visit to the region and underscored the importance of implementing projects to help farmers and herders overcome the challenges encountering during this time of the biting drought and harsh climatic condition.
The visit by the ministers is aimed at expediting planned implementation of development projects in the region specifically in Bay and Bakool region which have been adversely affected by the ongoing drought.
South West State is among regional State in Somalia groaning under vagaries of climate change and adverse effects of drought which have sparked large displacement of people and decimation of livestock.
The region is also hugely controlled by the Islamist militant group who recently imposed blockade on importation of food supplies to the State after the business people in the area refused to part with a bribery sought by the outfit.
