A section of Wajir County residents today took to the streets to demonstrate against the abduction and disappearance of Prof Abdiwahab Abdisamad, a prominent Somali scholar who was abducted on Wednesday this week in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) along Turbman Road near city market by four men who accosted and bundled him into a waiting car and drove off.
Addressing the Media in Wajir Town, the visibly disoriented family members carrying placards questioned on the circumstances behind the abduction of Abdisamad and appealed to the government to trace Abdisamad and bring him alive.
Noordin Abdi Kheiley, a family member wondered why the government has not made any progress to establishing the whereabouts of Prof.Abdiwahad and urged the government to protect the lives and property of the citizens as he called for the reunion of Abdiwahab with his family.
“Our brother must either be produced in a court of law or released to his family,” said Kheiley
He further added that they are giving the government an ultimatum of 48 hours to produce Abdiwahab and noted that Kenya is not safe today.
Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti has launched investigation into circumstances under which the Horn of Africa analyst was abducted in a broad daylight in the city centre.
According to eyewitness who spoke to journalists, the vehicle used to abduct Abdiwahab was a double cabin pickup car with registration number KCW 341Y.
However, a quick search on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that the number plate has been flagged illegal in the country by the regulator as it has not been registered with anyone in the authorities database.
Supreme Council of Kenya ( SUPKEM) yesterday spent better part of the day seeking audience with the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti on the rising spate of abductions in the country.
Speaking to the press outside the DCI Headquarters, SUPKEM chairman said that the investigative agency gave them an assurance that in the next few days establish the whereabouts of Prof. Abdiwahab.
Haki Africa has filed a case in court to have the state compelled to produce Abdiwahab.
Northern Advocacy organization a local NGO committed to defend, protect and uphold human rights has yesterday filed a Habeas Corpus Application at the High Court in Nairobi to compel the Inspector General of Police to produce him before the Court.
Until his disappearance, Prof.Abdiwahab was the Executive Director of the Institute for Horn Africa Strategic Studies.
