MOGADISHU– Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs Abshir Omar Huruse has on Monday received a copy of credentials from Ms. Karin JOHANSSON, the new Ambassador of European Union Ambassador to Somalia.
The Minister wished all the best to the new EU Envoy as she embarks on her duty in the country in further enhancing the strategic partnership in national security, economic recovery, institutional building and humanitarian resilience.
He underscored Somali government commitment to continue cooperating with Ms. Karin in advancing the relationship between the two parties.
On her part, the new EU Envoy thanked Mr. Huruse for the warm reception she was accorded to asserting EU’s unflinching commitment to further supporting Somalia.
Ms. Johansson is taking over the mantle from Tiina Intelman who wounded up her tour of duty in the Horn of Africa Nation.
Intelman began her tenure as the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Somalia in September 2021 after submitting her credentials to former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and senior Somali government officials including regional State Presidents bade farewell to the outgoing ambassador last month.
Tiina previously served was the Estonian Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 2017 until August 2021.
She was also the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Liberia.
