MOGADISHU-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud today chaired the weekly cabinet meeting in Mogadishu.
The ongoing counterterrorism operations against Al-Shabaab in several parts of Somalia and humanitarian crisis in the country featured prominently in the meeting.
President Mohamud called on the cabinet to focus on security and the humanitarian assistance to liberated areas.

Somali National Army backed by local residents and militias have recently embarked on a countrywide liberation campaign against the Al-qaeda affiliate group – Al-Shabab who have been thorn in the flesh of the Somali people and the fragile central government.
Several areas in Hiraan region have so far been reportedly wrestled from the grip of the insurgents.
A number of militants have surrendered to the SNA forces as the Nationwide crackdown on the group continues unabated.
On Wednesday evening, the official Somali National Army Radio reported that the spokesman of Al-Shabaab, Sheikh Ali Dheere who was injured by SNA forces last Sunday at 04:30 PM in the Adan Yabaal district of the Middle Shabelle region has passed away.

However, no comments were available from Al-Shabaab by the time of publishing this report.
The Horn of Africa Nation is also grappling with incessant drought that has claimed the lives of people and livestock and decimated crops following four years consecutive failed rainy seasons.
