MOGADISHU– Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has welcomed the high level consultation meeting which commenced on Wednesday at Decale Hotel at Aden Abdulle International Airport in the capital Mogadishu.
The talks which brings together former Somali leaders is being presided over by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud featuring key topics including recent National Consultative Council resolution, the electoral model, counterterrorism and the current political developments in the country.
According to Abdirashid Hashi , a spokesman for the Ex- leader who spoke to BBC , Farmaajo hailed the talks and urged the Somali leaders to come into consensus.
He endorsed the call for the convening of direct elections in the country saying it gives the citizens the ultimate determination to decide their leaders.
Mr. Hashi further said that the former Head of State will not take part in person in the meeting due to what he termed as tight schedule of the former President.
In a similar note , former Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble welcomed the meeting exuding his confidence that the talks will bear fruits.
Roble who spoke to journalists outside the hotel stated that the leaders will come up with sustainable solutions that will guide the country in the coming years and will issue joint communiqué once the meeting comes to an end.
The first day of the talks ended with Pesident thanking the country’s former political leaders and actors for their participation in the consultation conference
Former Presidents, Prime Ministers, Speakers, and senior leaders and cabinet ministers all attended the meeting.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and other key figures in the Somali political field are also expected to join the leaders tomorrow.
