MOGADISHU– Somalia National Army ( SNA) ground forces commander has on Tuesday visited officers undergoing training at the TURKSOM Military Academy in the capital Mogadishu.

Gen. Ali met with the commandant of the SNA forces and officials from the Turksom military training centre.

18th Battalion of Somali National Army special forces from Gorgor regiment are undergoing commando training in the camp.

The special elite forces displayed parts of their rigorous and meticulous training to their visiting commander.

He encouraged the officers to take their training very earnestly and demonstrate good and professional conduct during the training.

Turkey government has been providing critical support to the Somali Federal government especially in training of the SNA Gorgor brigade both in Turkey and Mogadishu.

The special forces has in recent months played a pivotal role in the onslaught against the Al-Shabab militant group which continue to pose great danger to the Horn of Africa Nation despite suffering significant losses in terms of land and influence since the beginning of the first phase of uprising against the insurgents in June last year.

Somali government has this week announced the beginning of the second phase to flush out Al-Shabab from the remnants areas and the officers are expected to be great asset in the warfare.
