HIRAAN– Troops from the Somali National Army especially its commandos ( Danab) have on Saturday distributed food aid to vulnerable families living in Hiiraan region, Hirshabelle State.

Vulnerable families ravaged severely by the ongoing devastating drought and other humanitarian situations received the food supplies.

The specialized forces mostly conducted the disbursement in El Ali which is one of the areas adversely affected by the debilitating drought in the East African Nation sparked by the successive failed rainy seasons in four decades now.

The efforts is seen as a enhancing the relation between the Somali Army and the locals who have borne the brunt of myriad challenges including the Al-Shabab insurgency who used to extort money and kill them at times.

Hiraan region is one of the areas which used to be the hotbed of the militant group but following the public uprising and onslaught from the Somali government forces, the group has been driven out of the region and are now confined in small territories in Central and South of the country.
