MOGADISHU– Somali Deputy Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation Abdihakim Ashkir has on Sunday received a high level delegation led by UNHCR Special Envoy of the Horn of Africa Amb. Mohamed Affey.
The meeting in Mogadishu discussed
Somalia’s efforts to addressing the concerns of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The talks also covered the bolstering of cooperation between the UN agency for refugees and the Somali Federal government.

The Deputy Minister of Interior thanked the UNCHR officials for the visit to the country stressing the need for closer working relations in a bid to surmount the challenges plaguing the refugees and IDPS in the Horn of Africa Nation.
Amb. Affey on his side appreciated the efforts by the Federal government in various fronts including counterrorism and enhanced support to the people displaced by calamities asserting that the Somali government provided shelter to the refugees and IDPs in the most precarious situation.
“Even in the most difficult of circumstances, the government and people of Somalia have been hosting refugees and IDPs from other parts of the world. For that we are thankful.” said Amb. Affey.

He revealed plans by the UNHCR to lending a helping hand to the refugees and IDPs with a view to rebuilding their lives.
Among those in attendance of the meeting were, the Director General of Ministry of Interior Aidarus M. Hassan, the Commissioner for the National Commission of Refugees and IDPs Safia Mohamed and the UNCHR Country Representative Magatte Guisse among other senior officials.
