GARISA COUNTY – Police in Garissa county have seized assorted firearms at Iftin village in the Garissa town after tip-off from the members of the public about suspicious people in the area.
The police recovered 4 firearms and 200 rounds in the operation, three of the firearms are AK 47 rifles and the fourth one is said to be FN assort rifle in the dragnet which saw several of the men concealing the weapons escape from the swoop.
Police believe that the firearms were being used to disrupt and stage attacks in Garissa county.Three people were nabbed in the operation that also saw the interception of magazines and several face masks.
Addressing the press in Garissa town, Garissa county commissioner Boaz Cherutich who led the operation said police have launched a man hunt for the main suspects who escaped from the dragnet and thanked members of the public for providing information to the security apparatus.

Al-Shabaab terror group based in Somalia have been launching attacks and planting landmine in the areas boardering Garissa county which have left dozens of civilians and security officials dead and wounded.
On 2 April 2015, gunmen stormed Garissa university where they killed more 140 students and injured scores of others after hours several hours of seige in the only university in the marginalized region of Northern Kenya.
