Turkana governor Josephat Nanok has outlined that his administration has commenced the distribution of 2,449 metric tons of relief food to vulnerable families in his county stating that they are targeting 640,366 people who have been hard hit by the ravaging drought facing parts of the country.
Speaking during a presser on the current drought situation and ongoing interventions by the county government and partners, Nanok decried the dire situation on the ground calling for concerted efforts to cushioning Kenyans from the devastating drought in the country.
”We are currently at an alarm phase with about 50% of the population in need of relief support while nutrition situation of children generally moderate.” Said Nanok.

The county boss added that they are embracing mass screening for malnutrition, livestock vaccination and treatment as well as land preparation and distribution of seeds as alternative means to alleviating the effects of droughts on the pastoralist communities.
Nanok further stated that they are working with partners including NDMA Kenya to distribute water to schools and health facilities and engaging in cross border peace dialogues to address resource based conflicts in a bid to to ensure residents live together in harmonious and cordial manner in the county
The governor also assured residents that the county government is monitoring the situation won the ground in conjunction with its partners to mitigate people from the yokes of the drought.
