Mandera county police commander Johana Tonui has called on police officers in the county to adopt a multi-agency as the country gears up for the upcoming General elections.
Addressing officers during a training on the preparedness of the police in the polls, Tonui urged the security officers to embrace professionalism in dealing cases of insecurity during the elections.
‘Adopt a multi-agency approach of policing to ensure that the National Police Service delivers on its mandate during the forthcoming elections,’ said Mr. Johana Tonui.
Flanked by the county’s IEBC returning officer, the Police commissioner informed the officers the need to execute their duties in a diligent and in accordance with the law.
He added that the aforementioned virtues will lay ground for cooperation between state and non-state actors.
The training focused on the roles and responsibilities of police officers during elections, approaches to election security and the overall legal framework guiding the electoral process.
The National Police Service (NPS) said that they are committed to enhancing security during the elections and are well prepared to perform their responsibilities.
“With the general elections fast approaching, the NPS remains committed to ensuring all officers are well prepared for their roles during the coming national exercise.” said NPS.
Kenyans are expected to go to polls on August 9 in which they will elect presidents, Governors , Senators, MPs , Women Reps and Member of County Assemblies.
