NAIROBI- Wajir South MP Mohamed Adow has pledged to sponsor students willing to pursue teaching through university and college in a bid to find a solution to the biting teachers crisis that has gripped his constituency.
The former veteran journalist said time has come for the residents of Northern Kenya especially Wajir South to get quality education and put them at the same par with other Kenyans.
Speaking to celebrated and prominent Somali journalists Abdisalam Hereri in a special interview in Nairobi on Wednesday, Adow said the residents of Northern Kenya have been in neglect for quite some time especially the education sector.
He vehemently castigated the decision by the former administration led by President emeritus Uhuru Kenyatta to withdraw teachers from North Eastern Kenya adding that the decision was ill-advised and backward.
“Uhuru Kenyatta’s government has committed the worst injustice to Northern Kenya combined to what the previous administration of Kenyatta and Moi did by ordering tutors teachers in the region to leave the area under the pretext of insecurity.”
Adow said that he will use his network in and outside parliament to champion for the rights of his constituents that he said have been neglected for so long since independence.
” I will use my voice in and out of parliament to advocate the rights of my constituents.” said Adow.
He challenged the Northern Kenya leaders to join hands in a bid to have the same course and fight for the interests and rights of the Northern Kenya residents.
When asked about the future of Somali community in ascending to the House of the Hill ( State House) , Adow stated that the community has a bright future but hinges on the coming together of the Northern Kenya political leaders.
Before joining politics Adow was a celebrated roving journalists who reported in the frontline of wars and floods across the World.
He worked for Nation Newspaper as a North Eastern based reporter before joining BBC where he worked for nine years.
